Professor Tan, Neurology Division, University of Malaya did his undergraduate education in the University of Melbourne. His training in Neurology included the Institute of Neurology, London, UK. His main interests are in epilepsy and CNS infection / inflammatory diseases. His roles and contributions in epilepsy include as past Vice-President, past chairs of Education Commission, Commission of Asian & Oceanian Affairs (CAOA), and Asian Epilepsy Academy (ASEPA), all of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE). He was Leader of the University of Malaya Team that helped to discover the Nipah virus and characterize the encephalitis illness.  He is currently co-chair of the Research Task Force and member of ASEPA, CAOA, and Editor-in-Chief, Neurology Asia.
